The
Momentum Continues
VISION 2020 ACTION PLANS
EMBRACED BY COMMUNITY; VISION FORCES TO MONITOR IMPLEMENTATION
The Vision 2020 momentum continues following the successful hand back to the community January 29 of the Vision 2020 Action Plan. In an unprecedented manifestation of a shared vision, public and private organizations and individual citizens across the community have embraced the Vision and Action Plans. These include the City of Bakersfield, County of Kern, Kern County Superintendent of Schools, California State University Bakersfield, Bakersfield College, the Workforce Investment Board, Project Clean Air, and more. In many cases, these and other organizations and groups are incorporating Vision 2020 strategies and action plans into their own action plans.
Meanwhile, the Greater Bakersfield Vision 2020 organization will continue in the role of championing and monitoring progress toward implementation of the Action Plans. Follow up responsibilities have been assigned to the Vision Force citizen groups that developed the strategies and action items. Check the Vision 2020 website www.bakersfieldvision2020.com for periodic updates.
Keeping
the Vision Alive
Spirit of the Vision Goes
to Kern High School District
A Spirit of the Vision award was presented to the Kern High School District in April 2001 in recognition of the districts innovative KernLearn project. KernLearn brings together multiple school districts in a collaborative effort to develop a countywide, Internet accessible K-16 standards-based curriculum and assessment tool that can be used by students, teachers, and parents 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Spirit of the Vision awards are given to individuals or groups whose efforts accomplish the Vision for our communitys future.

A key Vision 2020 strategy in the Our Vision for
the Heart of the City was to actively support the Charrette Process coordinated
by the City of Bakersfield. This unique
exercise in civic creativity, co-sponsored by Vision 2020, will take place May
11 13, and the community is invited to participate.
During this process, community members will have the opportunity to brainstorm what the Downtown could look like, with professional architects on hand to transform the ideas into drawings. The fun begins Friday evening, May 11, with work continuing all day Saturday, May 12, and Sunday afternoon, May 13, from 1:00 4:00 p.m. The finished drawings can be seen at the May 17 Downtown Street Fair.
Call 326-3670 or log on the citys website www.ci.bakersfield.ca.us for more information or to sign up to be part of the Charrette.
